How long did it typically take to establish fluency? I have a reluctant reader here, who knows all her phonics rules, but still resists practice because it is so unpleasant with her low fluency…

It really just depends on the child, my daughter took much longer to get into wanting to read for fun, which is when fluency truly takes off. When I motivated her with a reading incentive or other reward, she was much more excited to read which got the ball rolling. Now she is so much more fluent and it’s not such a struggle. Choosing books that are right at their independent level is important since you want to build their confidence. Hope that helps!
